
As someone who has personally been through quite a number of stick sessions, facilitated over a thousand sessions, and trained others in the process, I recommend trying it once. Then, if it feels like it could be valuable, start with a series of 5 sessions anywhere from 1-2 weeks apart. That will give enough time for your body to recover without taking so long between sessions that old patterns creep back in before the new ones take hold. What we want is for your nervous system to memorize a new pattern of behavior without you having to constantly remind it.
Also remember that this is not massage. It is an active process of nervous system training and somatic education where you participate in guiding your habitual reactions toward states of calm and pleasantness. In that sense, you can think of it like a kind of internal martial arts training where, together, we are teaching your body to dissolve the conflict within.
